Royal Restoration Project
So recently I received this beautiful Royal 10:
The biggest problem she has is that the carriage does not advance.
This is due to the fact that the drawband has snapped, this should however only be a medium repair.

The first thing I had to do was to remove the old drawband from the main gear,
this was very easy once the back plate was off. As can be seen in the diagram above, the band was held on by a simple clip.
Now that I had the old clip loose from the main gear I had to find a replacement band,
the advice I saw online from community members was to use a sturdy shoelace, this is what I ended up doing.
I attached the old clip to the new shoelace by simply sewing it on in place of the old rivets that had been there.
I also had to create a similar new clip for the other side of the new drawband as the original clip has been lost to time.
I fashioned this new clip out of some sheet metal, this clip had to be less accurate than the main gear clip as all this holds
is the metal carriage.

With the new drawband in hand all I had to do was re-attach this to the carriage and the main spring,
after this was done all that was left was re-applying tension to the main gear so it has enough force
to draw the carriage all the way to the left.

And now the new drawband was in! I cleaned the machine up more as well during this process, so here is the final look:

She now works again fully, the only minor issue that she still has is that some keys stick on occasion, but this is
not a super common occurrence. I am currently still looking for a good solution for this as the only option i've seen for now
is filing down the keys that stick and I do not want to do that to a machine this old.
