Portsmouth's economy is based on it's large industry sector, in recent decades more and more people have moved to the region due to its strong economy and prime trading position.
It has seen large developments in steel production due to its abundance of a special type of coal which allows the Portsmouth's foundries to burn brighter and longer than their competition. This has led to developments in not only their infrastructure but also the invention of clockwork and steam powered machines.
